NIA Raids in Hyderabad, Wardha: Four Suspected ISIS Sympathisers Arrested; Mobile Phones, Documents Recovered

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted raids in Hyderabad and Wardha on suspected Islamic State (IS) activists. As per reports, four people were taken into custody.

Hyderabad, April 21: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted raids in Hyderabad and Wardha on suspected Islamic State (IS) sympathisers. As per reports, four people were taken into custody. Out of the four arrested two youth belong to Maharashtra, but currently residing under Falaknuma police station limit of Hyderabad and Mailardevpalli police station limit of Cyberabad, reported India Today. The raids were conducted in connection with a 2016 Islamic State-related case called Abu Dhabi Module. Meanwhile, Mohammed Abdullah Basith was arrested in August, 2018 in connection with the same case. In February this year, the NIA charge-sheeted Basith and another accuse Abdul Qadeer at Patiala House court of Delhi.

A total of four raids were conducted- three places in Hyderabad and one place in Wardha. According to report published in India Today, a number of digital devices including 13 mobile phones, 11 SIM cards, one iPad, two laptops, one external hard disk, six pen drives, six SD cards and three Kenwood walkie talkie were seized during the raid. Apart from all these materials, some documents were also recovered.

In December, last Year, the NIA had conducted raids at 16 locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh after receiving a tip-off about new terror module of ISIS operatives 'Harkat-ul-Harb-e-Islam'. The premier investigative agency arrested five persons, including one, said to be the leader of the group.
