Imphal, August 24: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested chairman of terror group Kuki Revolutionary Army David Hangshing on Friday. Hangshing was arrested in connection with missing arms case related to the theft of 56, pistols and 58 magazines went missing from DG Pool Armoury located within the premises of 2nd Manipur Rifles Battalion, Imphal between 2016 and 2017. Earlier in the day the NIA also arrested Manipur Congress MLA Yamthong Haokip for his alleged involvement in the case. Haokip represents Saikul assembly.
According to a report published in The Times of India, the NIA probe revealed that Haokip had provided some pistols to Hangshing. The Congress MLA was produced before the NIA court in Imphal and was sent to 15 days judicial custody. Meanwhile, Hangshing will be produced before the court on Saturday. Last Month, the missing arms were recovered from the residence of Haokip. The NIA also arrested the Congress leader's driver.
Earlier on Thursday, NIA had recovered nine missing pistols from the residence of United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) chief, Soson Haokip, at Mantripukhri. The court has rejected bail plea of Haokip. However, the judge ordered Haokip to be lodged at the security ward of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMA) hospital, Imphal. Manipur’s Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren termed the incident as a breach of National Security. Till now, the NIA has recovered 14 pistols from different individuals.
