New Delhi, November 20: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday said it arrested Madhu Kumari aka Saista Praveen, manager of the NGO that was running a shelter home in Bihar's Muzaffarpur where girls were sexually assaulted. Terming Madhu Kumari's arrest as a big catch, the CBI said she used to teach girls how to have sex and dance on vulgar songs. Kumari, however, claimed innocence.

Kumari, who is said to be a close aide of the main accused Brajesh Thakur, was allegedly preparing girls at the shelter home for their first sexual intercourse, the CBI alleged. She also trained them for dancing on songs with vulgar lyrics, the agency said. Kumari, a resident of Chaturbhuj Sthan, a red light area in Muzaffarpur, had been working with Thakur's NGO as a social worker since 2001. Why Manju Verma Stepped Down as Bihar Social Welfare Minister.

Earlier today, former Bihar Minister Manju Verma, who was absconding for nearly three months in an arms case related to the Muzaffarpur shelter home horror, surrendered at a court. She faces arrest under the Arms Act following the recovery of 50 live cartridges from her residences in Patna and Begusarai during a CBI raid. She resigned on August 8 following allegations that Thakor had links with her husband Chandrasekhar Verma.

Of the 42 girls lodged at the short-stay home run by Thakur's NGO, 34 were found to have been sexually assaulted. The crime came to light after a social audit by the Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai. The shelter home has been sealed, and Thankur is now in the Muzaffarpur jail.
