Bengaluru, November 6: A tragic incident unfolded in Iggaluru village, near Chandapura, southeast Bengaluru, on Monday evening, November 5, when a one-month-old baby girl was found dead in the rooftop water tank of her paternal grandfather’s two-story home. The baby, who was born prematurely at seven months, had been under the care of her mother, Archita, and her parents after being discharged from a private hospital two weeks ago, where she had been treated for respiratory issues. A murder case has been registered, and authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend the individual responsible for the crime.
According to a report by Times Of India, The child, born prematurely to Manu, a 25-year-old cab driver, and Archita, a 20-year-old computer science student, had been battling respiratory issues after birth. The couple, who had an inter-caste marriage—Manu being from a Dalit background and Archita from an upper caste—was living close to each other. Police suspect the case could be an honour killing, with the possibility of someone from within the family being involved. Investigations are ongoing, with the killer believed to have accessed the house through an adjacent building. At around 12:20 pm, Archita returned from the washroom to find her baby missing from the cradle. In distress, she alerted her family, and her grandmother, Rukminiyamma, called Archita’s father, Murali, who was at work. Murali quickly filed a missing person report with the Suryanagar police, sparking an immediate search of the area. Officers reviewed CCTV footage from nearby buildings, but there were no signs of an intruder. After several hours, following the suggestion of villagers, Manu went to check the rooftop water tank and discovered the baby's lifeless body floating inside. Murali, devastated by the tragedy, recounted the horrifying moment, "We heard Manu's scream from the terrace and rushed upstairs to find him collapsed on the ground, holding the baby in his arms. It was unimaginable to see him in that state, and when we checked, we realized the heartbreaking truth — the baby was lifeless,"
“How could anyone be so heartless, especially toward an innocent newborn?” he questioned, his sorrow reflecting the sheer disbelief at the cruelty his family had endured.
