Gujarat, December 31: In other cities, it is encouraged to avail a taxi after drinking rather than driving yourself. However, in a dry state like Gujarat, hiring a cab after having alcohol at a New Year celebration might actually be a bad idea. According to a Times of India report, the cab driver may be under the instruction of the police to tip off the cops in case a drunk passenger gets on to their car or carries alcohol.

The report mentions that the senior cops held meeting with cab aggregators and have asked them to inform them in case drunk passengers board their cabs. They have also been warned of strict actions if found guilty of ferrying passengers under the influence of alcohol. In other cities as well, police are struggling to keep a check on people who usually indulge in drunken driving. It is a known fact that one should never drink and drive. However, every year just as the year comes to an end, there is an increase in drunken driving cases in all the major metros and cities. Police have been asked to keep a tight vigil and impose heavy fines on those caught flouting and are caught drunk driving.
