New Delhi, September 12: Parliament staff in New Delhi are set to don new uniforms as they prepare to move into the new Parliament building next week for a special session. Designed with an "Indian" touch, these uniforms feature various changes, including Nehru jackets, khaki-coloured pants, and a distinct pink lotus motif. According to multiple reports, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) played a pivotal role in creating these attires, ensuring they maintain a gender-neutral design.

In addition to parliamentary personnel, the attire for security personnel has also been revamped, with camouflage outfits replacing the traditional safari suits. Marshals in both houses will sport Manipuri headgear as part of their uniform. The special parliamentary session, commencing on September 18 and lasting for five sittings, is scheduled to start in the old Parliament building before transitioning to the new one on September 19, coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building on May 28. Special Parliament Session Could Be Precursor to Early Lok Sabha Elections, Says Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.

The lotus motif on the uniform has raised some political eyebrows, as it is not only India's national flower but also the symbol of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, this design was selected from proposals by all 18 NIFTs and chosen by an expert committee. This change in attire extends to personnel from various departments, including reporting, table office, notice office, legislative branch, and security. Special Session of Parliament To Start in Old Building on September 18, Will Shift to New Sansad Building on Ganesha Chaturthi, Say Sources.

The revised uniforms aim to enhance the dignity and prestige of the Indian Parliament, as those who wear them represent the face of the Parliament secretariat. As the special session approaches, the new Parliament building is fully prepared to host the proceedings, which will mark a significant transition for India's legislative body. The session's agenda, however, remains undisclosed by the government.
