Chennai, August 18: The newborn baby who was rescued by a woman from a drain in Chennai is in a stable condition and is receiving medical treatment at a children's hospital in Chennai. She named the boy 'Sudhandhiram’ which means freedom. K Geetha found a boy with an umbilical cord wrapped around his neck on August 15 from Chennai’s SVS Nagar. She pulled the boy safely from the drain.
According to media reports, Geetha after hearing the faint cries of a baby looked into the drain. She discovered him lying between two pipes inside a cemented drain. He was also covered in mud and worms. Geetha immediately loosened the umbilical cord from around his neck and even washed him with hot water.

The child was taken to a clinic at Chinna Porur and later to Stanley Medical College and Hospital. Police have started investigating the case and also scanning the CCTV footage of the area. Cops are looking out to identify the newborn’s parents and question them. Geetha who is an actor by profession lives in SVS Nagar with her daughter Shalini.
