New Delhi, July 18: Netflix Inc, a media-service company, on Wednesday confirmed that it would roll out a cheaper mobile-only plan in India, keeping in mind the price delicate market where data consumptions on mobile phones are on a rise. Netflix said that it was testing a Rs 250 monthly subscription plan for smartphones in India. Netflix Testing New Weekly Subscription Plans From Rs 65 For Indian Users.
The video streaming pioneer currently offers three monthly plans of Rs 500, Rs 650 and Rs 800. In contrast, its rival Hotstar charges Rs 299 per month and Amazon offers its video and music streaming services to the customer with its Prime membership. Netflix's new plan is to battle cheap offers from rivals. Netflix Suddenly Stopped Apple Airplay Support Because of Technical Limitations.
This development comes after Netflix reported lower subscriber addition in the last quarter. As India is a big market, the company is spending heavily on creating shows like crime thriller "Sacred Games" and "Delhi Crime" with top Bollywood actors. In August, Netflix will release the second of "Sacred Games".
Meanwhile, selling entertainment in India is quite challenging. It is studied that a company offering services at cheaper prices are performing well in the country. For Instance, Spotify, which entered the Indian market earlier this year, has given full excess to its services at no cost, unlike other markets where it charges.
