Netflix Addiction Lands Bengaluru Man in Nimhans For Treatment

Bengaluru, October 9: A 26-year-old man was admitted to National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans) for his addiction to Netflix. Speaking about the patient, Manoj Kumar Sharma, professor of clinical psychology, Nimhans, said that Netflix helped him forget about his problems. “Whenever his family pressurised him to earn a living, or when he saw his friends doing well, he would watch the shows on offer continuously. Due to addiction to Netflix, the man started losing self-control and developed eye strain, fatigue, and disturbed sleeping patterns. Doctors at Nimhans conducting a special therapy to address the man's psychological issues. They are also prescribing him relaxation exercises and guiding him in his career so that he overcomes his addiction.
Mansoor Khan, member, board of management, DPS (Bengaluru and Mysuru), advised parents to keep a close watch on a close watch on the duration and the shows their children watch. Dr Sharms added that minimum use of technology could prevent youths from being addicted to online games and portals that stream shows.
