New Delhi, August 17: Popular Doorsarshan news anchor Neelum Sharma died on Saturday. Doordarshan, India's state broadcaster, paid tribute to its famous anchor and wrote in a tweet that, "DDNews mourns passing away of our dear Colleague Neelum Sharma." Sharma was associated with the Doordarshan for 20 years and DD called her a "founding anchor".
Neelum Sharma was awarded for her work and given the Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2018. She recieved the honour at the hands of the President, Ram Nath Kovind.
"With over 20 years of association with #ddnews, she played a stellar role in many capacities," mentioned Doordarshan in its tweet.

Sharma was known for her work in programmes like Badi Charcha and Tejasvini as an anchor. She was suffering from cancer, said unauthorised reports. "#DDNews stands with the family of Neelum Sharma in this hour of grief," said DD News in another tweet.
