Mumbai, July 30: The Navi Mumbai police recently arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old woman who rejected his proposal two years ago. Police officials said the accused, Pritam Mhatre (31), assaulted the woman with an iron rod on Saturday, July 27, in Navi Mumbai's Nhava village. Officials also said that the woman was saved as she was rushed to hospital on time.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the victim received six stitches on her head after being hit with an iron rod. At present, she is said to be out of danger. A police official said that Mhatre, who lives in the same area as the victim in Nhava village, drives a trailer. Advocate Held for Raping Woman in Navi Mumbai.

They said that two years ago, Mhatre told the woman that he was in love with her. However, she rejected his proposal then, and following this, the victim maintained a distance from him. On Saturday, the woman and one of her friends were spending time together at Manik Tok. It is reported that Mhatre was also present at the same spot and kept an eye on her.

Amid this, the woman was giggling and laughing with her friends to which Mhatre presumed she was making fun of him. Post this, he picked up an iron rod lying nearby and hit the woman on her head. The accused has been booked and arrested under section 109 (attempt to murder) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
