Navi Mumbai, Sep 4: In significant news for firefighters in Navi Mumbai, the city municipal corporation has approved over three-fold hike in over-time (OT) allowance for the fire brigade personnel as per the 6th Pay Commission. Firemen had been demanding a hike in OT since long. 135 firemen work under the NMMC and will get the benefits of hiked OT allowance.

"We are all happy that the OT payments for all the 135 permanent staffers have been increased by over three times, as per the latest pay commission guidelines. This is a great boost to the morale of Navi Mumbai fire brigade," JC Patil, chief of NMMC fire department, told Times of India. The fire brigade personnel often stretch their eight-hour shift due to some emergency.

A fireman said they have eight-hour duty shifts; however, often they have to work overtime if there are any fire emergency calls. The civic body has four fire stations at Vashi, Nerul, Belapur and Airoli.
