Navi Mumbai, October 20: In a fatal road mishap, a 45-year-old biker in Navi Mumbai, riding pillion with his 3 daughters, was killed enroute a Dussehra Puja event. The accident was reported in sector-7 of Khanda Colony, located close to Panvel at 3:30 pm on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Shivaji Kate, was travelling to Nhava Sheva where three of his trailers were to be garlanded. On an internal road of sector-7, Khanda Colony, opposite to the Abhyudaya Bank, a speeding car rammed into the bike from opposite direction. Kate and his three daughters - Amruta (7), Sakshi (8) and Sheetal (16) - were rushed to the hospital by the local police, along with 23-year-old Prasad Mali who was riding the car which rammed into the bike. The minors' have been saved and are currently being treated in the general ward of the Ashtavinayak Hospital.
Mali, who has been booked by Khanda Colony police for rash and negligent driving amounting to death, sustained injuries to the head as his car struck a light pole after ramming into the bike. His condition is stated to be stable. He is being treated at the same hospital.
PSI Vaibhav Ronage, who is probing the case, said a complaint has been lodged against Mali by Vijay Kate, the nephew of the deceased. Shivaji Kate, who passed away, had suffered injuries on the head, neck and spine, Ronage said. He breathed his last at 6:50pm at Ashtavinayak Hospital, the PSI added.
