New Delhi, December 1: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday filed a chargesheet against former chief minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda, senior Congress leader Motilal Vora and Associated Journals Limited (AJL) in connection with the re-allotment of institution plot in Panchkula. The case is also referred as National Herald Case.
Previously, the Delhi court fixed the date of January 8, 2019 for BJP leader leader Subramanian Swamy’s cross-examination in the National Herald case. Swamy had filed a plea to cross examine Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, his mother Sonia Gandhi and others, accused in the case. In the complaint, Swamy had accused Rahul, Sonia and others of conspiring to cheat and misappropriate funds by paying just Rs 50 lakh, through which the Young Indian (YI) Private Limited obtained the right to recover the Rs 90.25 crore from the Associate Journals Limited owed to the Congress.
All the accused - Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, Vora, senior Congress leaders Oscar Fernandes, Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda and the YI - in the case have denied the allegations levelled against them. In its hearing on December 19, 2015, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi were granted bail.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had ordered a status quo in the National Herald case, in which the newspaper challenged the government order for cancelling its 56-year-old lease of Herald House. The government had ordered the Associated Journals Limited (AJL) to vacate the building by November 15. According to the government, no newspaper office has been in functioning on the premises for the last 10 years and alleged that the building was being used for commercial purposes.
