New Delhi, August 11: The Ministry of Human Resources & Development (MHRD) issued a note of clarification on Sunday, hours after Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal drew flak for his purported claim that the US-based National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) thinks the talking computers of future would only be able to speak in Sanskrit.

The HRD Ministry has blamed sections of the media of misquoting and misinterpreting what Pokhriyal had said. The press note said the Minister was only making reference to a study conducted by NASA scientist Rick Briggs. BJP MP Satyapal Singh Dismisses Darwin's Theory Again, Says 'Human Beings Descendants of Rishis, Not Monkeys'

What MHRD Said In Its Note of Clarification:

Pokhriyal, while addressing a gathering at IIT-Bombay, had said, "According to NASA in the near future if a talking computer were to be a reality, then it will only be possible because of Sanskrit. NASA is saying this because Sanskrit is a scientific language in which words are written exactly the way they are spoken," Pokhriyal said while addressing students at IIT-Bombay at the institute's 57th convocation ceremony.

The HRD Minister also claimed that Charaka Rishi, hailed as one of the principal contributors of Ayurveda, was the first person who researched and discovered atoms and molecules.

"Who conducted research on atoms and molecules? Charaka Rishi was the one who researched atoms and molecules, discovered them," he said. The BJP leader also claimed that ancient physician Sushruta was the world's first surgeon.
