Narendra Modi Introduces Jal Shakti Ministry to Address Water Crisis, Urges Citizens to Upload Suggestions With #JanShakti4JalShakti During Mann Ki Baat

The Prime Minister inspired everyone for rain harvesting and explained how the Jal Shakti Mantralay help in the conservation of water. In his address, he also encouraged people of the nation to make Save Water a successful mission just like Swachh Bharat Mission.

New Delhi, June 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday dedicated a huge chunk of his Mann Ki Baat address to the prevailing water crisis in the country. The Prime Minister inspired everyone for rain harvesting and explained how the Jal Shakti Ministry would help citizens in the conservation of water. In his address, he also encouraged people of the nation to make Save Water a successful mission just like Swachh Bharat Mission, a cleanliness drive that was initiated by the Modi government during its first term. “With the significance of water in mind, a new #Jalashakti ministry has been established in the country. During his address, the Prime Minister said, water crisis hits many parts of the nation every year. He said there is no one formula to deal with nationwide water crisis and there is no fixed way to conserve water. The Prime Minister added saying that in different parts, different methods may be adopted but the aim is same- to conserve every drop of water. “You will be surprised that only 8% of the rainwater in the whole year is harvested in our country”, he said.

The prime minister lists his requests to the people as he calls for a movement to save and conserve water. "Over the last few months, so many people have written about water related issues. I am happy to see greater awareness on water conservation," he said.

PM Modi also asks people to share knowledge and efforts on the issue on Twitter using #JanShakti4JalShakti. “My third request is Appeal to all Indians, including eminent people from all walks of life to create awareness on water conservation. Share knowledge of traditional methods of water conservation. If you know about any individuals or NGOs working on water, do share about them”, the PM tweeted.
