Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave a respite to the ailing farmers by increasing the "minimum selling price" of six Rabi crops by 50 to 109%. These rates would be applicable for Rabi Marketing Season 2020-21, and the government expects that these measures would help the crop growers make more profit than they did till now.
New Delhi, October 23: Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave a respite to the ailing farmers by increasing the "minimum selling price" of six Rabi crops by 50 to 109%. These rates would be applicable for Rabi Marketing Season 2020-21, and the government expects that these measures would help the crop growers make more profit than they did till now. The Union government took all these decisions in their Cabinet meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital on Wednesday, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar stated that the Union government had raised the MSP limit for "Rabi" growers by 50-109 percent. He also informed that the government aims to increase the farmers' income in accordance with the market value. According to the details, the MSP for wheat has been raised from Rs 1840 to Rs 1925, which is a raise of Rs 85 per quintal. Similarly, the price for barley has been increased from Rs 1440 to Rs 1525, which is also a raise of Rs 85 per quintal. For crops like rapeseed and mustard oil, the MSP has been raised from Rs 4200 to Rs 4425, which is Rs 225 higher than the previous price. Not only this, the MSP for gram has been raised from Rs 4620 to Rs 4875, which is a rise of Rs 255 per quintal. For safflower, the MSP has been raised by Rs 270, which has made the MSP from Rs 4945 to Rs 5215 per quintal. Lastly, for lentil, the government increased the MSP from Rs 4477 to Rs 4800, which is a change of Rs 325 per quintal.
