Pune, November 17: Pune Sessions Court has granted 45 days extension for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file chargesheet in rationalist Narendra Dabholkar murder case. Earlier, the CBI invoked Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) charges against the two accused namely Sharad Kalaskar and Sachin Andure on the basis of which they pleaded for 90 days extension. The investigative agency made a submission to this effect before Judicial Magistrate (First Class) S M A Sayyad here in Maharashtra on November 12.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Andure’s lawyer Dharmaraj Chandel submitted before the judicial magistrate that the firearm seized by the CBI was not used in the assassination of Dabholkar and also claimed that the agency received a negative report from Gujarat forensic laboratory. Chandel also opposed the CBI’s plea seeking 90-day extension of Andure and Kalaskar in the Dabholkar murder case. The CBI had filed a chargesheet against the accused in 2016. CBI arrested both the accused on charges of allegedly killing Dabholkar, a well known anti-superstition activist and rationalist near Omkareshwar Temple in Pune on August 20, 2013. Narendra Dabholkar Murder Case: Sachin Andure, the Main Shooter, Sent to CBI Custody Till August 26
