Surat, April 30: A Sessions Court in Surat on Tuesday awarded life sentence to rape convict Narayan Sai. The court convicted self-styled godman and son of rape convict Asaram, Narayan Sai, of raping a female disciple in Surat 11 years ago. Hearing the case, filed by the two sisters, the court had convicted him and stated that the quantum of sentence would be announced on April 30.
According to the case, one of the sisters had accused Narayan Sai of raping her, the other had accused Asaram of the same. Along with Sai, four others have also been convicted in the case. Sai, who is in Jail since 2013 after being arrested, went missing as the case was registered against him. he was then arrested by police n the Delhi-Haryana border in 2013, after which he was taken into custody. Apart from complainants, 53 witnesses were presented in court in the case. Sai has also been accused of bribing police officials in the case with Rs 13 crore and is on bail for the case. Earlier, his father - Asaram - was convicted was given a life sentence under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, for raping a minor girl in Manai village near Jodhpur on August 15, 2013.
