Buta Singh was deployed in Sikkim as a volunteer by his regiment. The body of the martyr went missing a week ago and his body was recovered five days after he went missing.
Naik Buta Singh, a soldier of the Indian Army, was martyred in the line of duty in Sikkim hills at an altitude of 19, 088 feet. After Siachen, this is the second highest post manned by Indian Army. In a video that shows immense respect for the soldier's ultimate sacrifice, passengers of Air India stood up when the captain announced that the carrier was carrying the body of the soldier. Buta Singh belonged to the Buraj Hari Singh village of Ludhiana district, Punjab. The 35-year-old martyr was posted in artillery regiment 66 Surveillance and Target Acquisition in Gujarat. The body of the martyr was recovered five days after he went missing. When the Captain of Air India plain announced that the Martyr's body was in the carrier, everyone stood to pay their respects to the martyr. The villagers said that his body got covered in snow. However, the exact sequence of events remain unknown. The cremation of the martyr's body will take place at his native place in Punjab with full state honours.
