Nagpur, October 14: In a shocking incident, a woman allegedly killed her 11-month-old son, Saransh Pathekar, by drowning him in a water tank of her rented apartment at Takalghat in Hingna taluka after an argument with her husband over breastfeeding. The incident took place on Wednesday.

According to a report in TOI, the woman, identified as Ekta, was arrested by MIDC Bori police station of Nagpur rural on Wednesday. Police said Ekta was miffed with her husband Panjab who wanted her to breastfeed their son. Police said Ekta and Panjab had a love marriage and Saransh was their first baby. The couple had been at loggerheads over various other domestics issues, said police.

After returning from office on Tuesday night, Panjab has a verbal duel with Ekta before sleeping. Enraged by her husband’s scolding, Ekta allegedly decided to kill the baby. She later raised a false kidnapping alarm to divert attention, said police.

Saransh was rushed to Takalghat PHC and later to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Police said Ekta’s husband filed complaint against her. After around four hours of sustained interrogation, she confessed to killing the baby and also showed the place where the baby was drowned, said police.
