Nagpur, December 26: A shocking case was reported from Nagpur where a former government lawyer thrashed the judge of District Court for issuing an unfavourable verdict against his father. The attacker subsequently attempted suicide by jumping off the balcony. He was, however, saved by the security personnel who caught and handed him off to the local police.
The accused, identified as Dipesh Parate, has represented the Maharashtra government for nearly three years as an assistant public prosecutor. On Wednesday, Parate lost his temper after Justice Kiren Deshpande ruled against his father in a 21-year-old land dispute case. The assault was reported during the working hours inside the court complex. When the judge was waiting for the lift, Parate rushed towards Deshpande and slapped him multiple times before hurling abuses.
The judge later approached the police and registered a complaint against Parate. In the FIR, Deshpande noted that the "lawyer slapped me hard and I have pain in the ear too".
Based on the complaint, the police have arrested Parate and booked him under the IPC sections pertaining to criminal intimidation and assaulting a public servant to deter him or her from doing his job.
