Nagpur, June 17: A hit-and-run accident has come to light from Maharashtra, where a speeding driver allegedly crushed eight people sleeping on the pavement in Nagpur. The alleged road accident occurred after 12 am today, June 17. According to news reports, two people were killed, and five others were seriously injured in the road accident in Nagpur. The alleged car crash occurred near Dighori Chowk in Wathoda police station limits.

According to a report in Lokmat, the accident occurred when a few people were reportedly sleeping on the pavement around 12:30 midnight. Those who were crushed by the speeding car included daily wage earners who earned their livelihood by selling toys on the streets. As per the report, the driver of the speeding car was heading towards Umred Marg when he allegedly lost control and crashed the vehicle onto the pavement. The speeding car allegedly crushed three women, four children and one man. One woman is reportedly said to have died on the spot in the accident. After the accident, there was panic in the area.

Cops said that there was a pool of blood on the accident site. After crushing the labourers, the car's driver somehow managed to escape from the crime scene. Soon after they were alerted, the police team reached the spot and sent all injured to a nearby medical hospital for treatment. After the incident, the cops launched a probe to nab the accused and scanned CCTV of the area. Later, they arrested the car's driver identified as Bhushan Lanjewar. An official said that the accused was under the influence of alcohol. At present, five people are seriously injured, and they are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
