Kohima, November 6: Police on Monday arrested a 60-year-old pastor at a church in Nagaland for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Karbi Anglong district of Assam. According to a report published in The Times of India, police also arrested a 35-year-old man for recording the entire act of crime and posting it on social media. The pastor has been identified as Chandra Kumar Pradhan. On October 29, the accused called the victim to a garden near his home, where he raped her and fled from the spot. According to the report, the girl told her parents on October 31, after which they filed a complaint. The pastor changed his location several times to evade the arrest. Finally, he was arrested from a hotel in Nagaland's Kohima district. Police charged Pradhan for rape under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012.
In another case, Jalandhar diocese former bishop Franco Mulakkal was arrested by police in for allegedly raping a Kerala Nun. He was the first bishop to be arrested in a rape case. The nun has accused the clergyman of repeated sexual assault between 2014 and 2016. The bishop had, however, dismissed the allegations as "baseless and concocted".
