Mumbai, August 27: In a bid to make travel hassle-free and easy for commuters in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is set to launch a mobile app in the coming days. Once the app is in place, Mumbaikars travelling in BEST buses will be able to plan what time to step out of the house to board a bus. Travellers will no longer have to wait for the bus, as the timing of arrival will be notified on the app. According to a report by Mumbai Mirror, the Mumbai’s civic transport body will launch its mobile app by August-end. The BEST service operates one of India’s largest fleets of buses, covering the entire city. The app, which is tentatively called 'My BEST' app, will provide commuters with information on bus timings on specific routes and availability of seats. General Manager of BEST, Dr Surendrakumar Bagde was quoted in Mumbai Mirror report saying that more than 200 bus stops are being equipped with display boards to reflect arrival timings of all the buses.

Once the testing phase is over, the project will soon cover all the city bus stops. The report further informs that the app is being developed by Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMMTS) as part of Rs 112-crore Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) being funded by the BMC.
The BEST was established in 1873 as the Bombay Tramway Company Limited. Its aim was to organise public transport in the city. On August 9, the BEST service made its debut on social media by starting up its very own Twitter account @myBESTbus. The BEST bus service, which is nearly 150-years old, received requests for a BEST app that monitors BEST bus timings in the city. Several other requests on its Twitter page included requests for AC buses and more electric buses in the city to meet the needs of Mumbaikars.
