Gonda, June 30: A Muslim family in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district had named their baby 'Narendra Damodardas Modi'. Due to the fact that he was born on May 23, the day when the results of 2019 Lok Sabha Elections were announced. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters abuzz with that Prime Minister Modi was re-elected with a landslide victory and the family deemed it the right way to celebrate it. A month later, the mother of the baby, Mehnaz Begum, said that she regrets naming the baby Narendra Modi and blamed her journalist cousin for allegedly convincing her to spread the lie, reported The Indian Express. The infant which earlier was claimed to be born on May 23, was born on May 12 as Mehnaz declared in an affidavit to the district magistrate and submitted to Ghanshyam Pandey, Assistant Development Officer (Panchayat).
Mehnaz alleged that her cousin, Mushtaq Ahmed, a journalist with Hindi daily Hindustan, convinced her to name the baby after Modi and also spread the lie that child was born on May 23. The daily's Lucknow edition on May 25 also carried out a story on baby 'Narendra Damodardas Modi' with Ahmed sharing a byline with Qamar Abbas, Bureau Chief.
“Mushtaq made me mug up a short speech and tell media persons that my son was born on May 23 and that I have decided to name him after the Prime Minister. I am illiterate and don’t even know much about Narendra Modi,” says Mehnaz, quoted The Indian Express. Meanwhile, denying the allegations, Ahmed accused Mehnaz of spreading the lies about child's birthday. He said that he was not aware of the fact that the child was born on May 12.
Now after the whole controversy broke out, Mehnaz says that she wants to change the name of baby 'Modi' but Aftab along with it. She wants to file a revised affidavit with newborn's name Aftab Alam Mohd Modi.
