Earlier, Shaikh has been in the news after he demanded a designated spot for Muslims to offer namaz at the civic headquarters. In his letter, he alleged that there is no dedicated place in BMC to offer namaz for the Muslim Community. He also said that if a specific spot is allotted to them, then their problem will be solved, or else they have to keep stepping out every few hours.

Shaikh had previously made a similar demand, asking the civic body to distribute 22 items to school children including scarves for Urdu medium schoolgirls.
