Ghaziabad, July 24: A Muslim man was beaten up outside the Marriage registrar office in Ghaziabad by a group of people on Monday. The man, identified as Sahil from Madhya Pradesh, was beaten up allegedly because he went there to marry a Hindu girl, Preeti, from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh. A case against two known and several unidentified persons after police took suo-motu cognisance of the case.
According to reports, the couple works at a company in Noida and had gone to get married at the registrar's office in Ghaziabad. A video of the man being beaten up has gone viral on the social media.

According to police, Sahil and Preeti fell in love while working in the same company and wanted to get married. According to police, the couple's friends advised them to get their marriage registered. When they went to consult an advocate, a group of people reportedly barged into the advocate's office and started arguing with Sahil.
The group started beating up Sahil, who was rescued by policemen who reached the spot in time.
The incident comes at a time when the country has been witnessing several incidents of mob lynchings.
