Mumbai, July 12: The Mumbra Bypass road repair and resurfacing work may extend further as the road has also developed major cracks amid the heavy rains. A picture of same is doing rounds on social media -- including WhatsApp-- with a message that the cracks are severe and are about 50 to 60 feet deep. The message also states that it was due to the shoddy road repair work carried out by the road contractor that the road has developed such cracks.
Furthermore, the message also alleges that the said portion of the road underwent repair a few days ago, but even after that, it developed cracks. Hence, action should be taken by the authorities against the contractor for bad quality work. When LatestLY inquired about the message to the Thane civic body officials, they clarified that the road is shut for traffic movement and the repair work on the said portion is not undertaken. But once the rain reduces, the work will be taken up subsequently, added the officials.

The PWD officials who are undertaking the road repair work added that they will also repair the cracks along with the ongoing repair and road resurfacing work. Meanwhile, the officials blamed the heavy rains for the cracks developing on the road.
