Mumbai, December 30: In a major development in the Tilak Nagar fire in Mumbai, the Fire brigade officials have said that short circuit in Christmas tree lights caused the fire on the 14th floor of Sargam Society near Ganesh Garden on December 27. On Thursday, December 27, a blaze erupted at a housing society in Mumbai's Tilak Nagar region. Firefighting operations and fire tenders were rushed to the spot after fire broke out.

According to reports, the fire broke out at around 8:20 AM in the evening. The fire brigade had classified it as "level-3" blaze, indicating it was a serious fire.

The housing complex where the fire erupted is Sargam Society. The flames engulfed the 14th floor of the building.

Talking about fire incidents in Mumbai in the year 2018, a total of 43 deaths due to fire incidents were recorded in the Maharashtra capital in 2018 -- the casualty-count could rise as two days remain for the year to pass by. The number of fatalities is higher than what was registered in 2017. In the preceding year, 25 people had died after being caught in blaze.

In another such incident on Saturday, thick plumes of smoke were seen as fire had broken out in a building in Worli, Mumbai. This was the second incident of fire reported in the day from Mumbai. The fire reportedly took place in Sadhana House in Mumbai's Worli area, behind the Mahindra Towers in Mumbai. The fire has turned from level 2 to level 3, reported news agency ANI. It took 12 fire tenders to control the fire and the firefighting went till late in the night.
