Mumbai, June 1: The Mumbai police recently solved a murder case after a decomposed body of a woman was found inside a room in Goregaon. The alleged incident came to light on Tuesday, May 28, when the deceased woman's body was reportedly found wrapped in a plastic sheet inside a room in Goregaon. The police have arrested the woman's live-in partner in connection with the incident.

Woman's Body Found on Tuesday

On May 28, people living at Ashok Nagar in Goregaon alerted the police after detecting a strong odour from a room. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the locals had dismissed the odour as a dead rat but later contacted the police as the foul smell continued to emanate. Deceased Woman Stayed with Live-In Partner

Officials said that the woman's body was allegedly concealed in plastic. A thorough search of the house led the police to the deceased woman's Aadhar card, which identified her as Divya Toppo. The official conducted an inquiry during which they learned that Toppo was living with her live-in partner, Jairam Lakda.

Accused Fled to Haryana

They also discovered that Toppo and Lakda were working as daily wage labourers. It is reported that the couple had migrated from Uttar Pradesh and signed a rental agreement as husband and wife. As Lakda was missing at the time of the incident, he emerged as the primary suspect. The police registered a murder case against Lakda and launched a manhunt to nab him. Cops learned that Lakda had fled to Haryana after the incident. In collaboration with Haryana police, the cops arrested Lakda on Friday, May 31, in connection with Toppo's murder.
