Mumbai Winters: Mercury Dips to 16.6 Degree Celsius, Expected To Dip Further in Coming Days; City Breathes Cleaner Air

Reports inform that Mumbai's Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 16.6 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, the Colaba observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 19 degree Celsius.
Mumbai, January 16: Mumbaikars woke up to cloudy and chilly morning on Saturday with the temperature dropping to 16.6 degree Celsius during the morning hours. This is the lowest temperature so far that has been recorded in the city. With the winter chills, people in the city also breathed the cleanest air this year as the air quality index stood at 166. Reports inform that the Santacruz observatory in Mumbai recorded a minimum temperature of 16.6 degree Celsius on Saturday while the Colaba observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 19 degree Celsius.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Mumbai's temperature at 16.6 degree Celsius is the is the second lowest minimum temperature recorded this season. Before this, the temperature had dipped to 16 degree Celsius on December 22, 2020. The IMD attributed this drop in temperature to the cold westerly winds. The HT report quoted KS Hosalikar, deputy director general of western region, IMD saying that there was chill in the air across the city as westerly winds have started blowing over parts of the state. The official said that as parts of northwest India are under the influence of a cold wave, north-westerly winds from these parts are colder. Adding further, Hosalikar said that the minimum temperature in the state is expected to see a gradual fall in the coming days.
