Mumbai, July 30: Heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai on Tuesday and according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the city will have to brace for 'active monsoon condition' till the weekend. According to a Times of India report, in the last 12 hours ending 8:30 pm, IMD's Santacruz observatory recorded- 61.2mm rainfall. The heavy spell was recorded in parts of Thane, Kalyan and Ambernath.
Mumbai has been lashed by torrential rains since last Friday, leading to waterlogging and flooding in parts of the city. The heavy downpour caused massive traffic congestion and flooding at several places including Kalyan, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, Badlapur among others. Mumbai has recorded the highest July rains in the last five years, the city received 1,268.4 mm received this month till now, which is just short of the 1,468.5 mm rainfall it got in the July 2014 deluge.
The strong south-west monsoon rains since July 25 has increased water stock in Maharashtra’s dams by 8 per cent, but it is still 20 per cent less when compared to the same period last year. According to reports, the water stock in dams went up from 26.87 per cent on July 25 to 35.2 per cent as on Monday, a rise of 8.33 per cent, data showed.
