Mumbai, May 14: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a daily weather report at 1 p.m. today, May 14, forecasting thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall this evening. In its daily weather report, the weather agency also predicted heatwave conditions for today, May 14, and tomorrow, May 15. "Heat wave conditions very likely in city and suburbs," the IMD said. The weather agency also stated that light rainfall and thundershowers are possible in the next 48 hours.
The weather report by IMD comes a day after Mumbai witnessed a dust storm and rainfall. The sudden change in weather brought some much-needed respite from soaring temperatures in Mumbai, Thane, and its neighbouring areas. While the sudden weather change was welcomed by Mumbaikars, it also brought destruction, as an illegal hoarding collapsed in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area. The hoarding collapse resulted in the loss of 14 lives, with the NDRF team rescuing 74 people alive. The hoarding reportedly collapsed at around 5 p.m. during a dust storm and heavy rainfall in the city, with the wind speed reaching 60 kmph.
Besides thunderstorms and rainfall warnings for Mumbai, the IMD also forecasted weather for Maharashtra and Goa for the next five days. The weather agency said heatwave conditions will likely prevail in isolated pockets over Konkan and Goa on Wednesday, May 15. It further predicted thunderstorms with lightning, hail storms and moderate rainfall in Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada districts. In its regional weather forecast, the IMD said that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rain, and gusty winds are likely over isolated places in Konkan and Goa.
