Mumbai, October 7: Mumbaikars may witness inconvenience as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will carry out valve replacement works at the Malad Hill reservoir in Malad East on October 9 and 13. As a result, there will be water disruption for 16 hours on both days in Goregaon, Malad, and Kandivali East. The maintenance project is aimed at the replacement of old and damaged valves to ensure a safe and efficient water supply system in the maximum city.
As per a Times of India report, the water supply in certain areas of P/North ward in Malad (East), P/South Ward in Goregaon (East), and some sections of R/South Ward (Kandivali) will be temporarily cut until midnight on October 9 and 13 to facilitate the replacement work. This will result in a total water supply cut of 16 hours each day. The BMC had announced last week that Mumbaikars will not have to face any water cuts until June next year. This is due to the water level of the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai reaching 99.6%. Purshottam Malwade, a Hydraulic Engineer at BMC, confirmed this development and stated that there will be no need to impose cuts on water now. Between September 24 and September 27, the city of Mumbai received good rainfall, which led to an increase in the water levels of four lakes, eliminating fears of water shortage. Modak Sagar Lake received 51mm rainfall, Bhatsa received 42mm, Tansa received 23mm, and Middle Vaitarna received 19mm. As a result of this, the water levels of these four lakes increased by 98.93% on September 25 and 99.66% on September 27 1. The civic body supplies 3900 million litres of water every day to the citizens.
