Mumbai, April 27: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a 24-hour suspension of water supply in parts of Kandivali and Borivali on May 3 due to pipeline replacement work. The project aims to replace the existing 1,200 mm diameter water line stretching from Mith Chowki Junction to Mahavir Nagar Junction along the new Link Road.
As per a report by the Free Press Journal, the undertaking is scheduled to commence at 10 pm on May 2 and aims to complete the replacement within 24 hours, necessitating the emptying of the pipeline during this period. This essential infrastructure upgrade is poised to enhance water pressure and eliminate leakages in Kandivali West. Residents in various parts of Kandivali and Borivali will experience water scarcity on May 3. Areas with scheduled water timings between 1:30 am to 2:55 am, including Jan Kalyan Nagar, Chattrapati Shivaji Raje complex, and MHADA colony, will be among those affected. Similarly, regions with water supply schedules from 3:40 am to 5:50 am, such as Lalji Pada, KD compound, and Gandhi Nagar, will also face water shortages. Furthermore, neighbourhoods with water timings from 9 am to 11 am, like Mahatma Gandhi Marg and Shankar Gully, and those with water supply between 11:45 am to 2:05 pm, such as Charkop MHADA sector 1 to 9, will experience disruptions. Additionally, areas with evening water supply slots from 4:30 pm to 9:55 pm, including Poisar, Mahavir Nagar, and SV road, will also be affected.
In light of the water cut, the BMC urges citizens to filter and boil water before consumption for the next 4 to 5 days to ensure safety. The replacement of the deteriorating pipeline aims to mitigate leakages and enhance water pressure, particularly in Kandivali West, addressing long-standing infrastructure concerns in the region.
