Mumbai, September 17: The Mumbai Police on Thursday booked two people for allegedly duping an elderly woman on the pretext of giving generous donations to senior citizens. The two accused stole the elderly woman's jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of giving donations. The incident occurred on Thursday when the complainant was walking towards her home after getting off a bus at Vakola Bridge.

In her complaint, 82-year-old Vijaya Chari said she was duped by two people who offered donations to senior citizens. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, when Chari was walking on a footpath near Ashok Nagar, a man approached her, saying that his employer was giving donations to elderly people as a son was born in his family. The accused told her to come to a building where the employee stays. Mumbai Shocker: 70-Year-Old Woman Dies After Robbers Tie-Up Elderly Couple in Tardeo Area.

"A few minutes later, he told her that she might not get much donation if the employer sees her wearing gold bangles and chain and suggested she hand it to him for safekeeping," an officer from Vakola police station said. While the woman hesitated to take off her jewellery, she gave in when the accused gave her a purse to keep the jewellery in it.

At the same time, the second accused walked towards them, posing as the employer of the first accused. The second accused gave the woman a polythene bag and some money.
