Mumbai, June 1: A day after scores of commuters faced inconvenience in travelling from Ghatkopar to Andheri, the Mumbai Police on Saturday announced route diversions as the Savitribai Phule bridge is being closed for repairs. The Mumbai Police took to Twitter to announce the diversions. This will help commuters travelling from LBS Road towards Ghatkopar. People commuting from Ghatkopar towards Andheri faced inconvenience on Friday as the bridge on Andheri-Ghatkopar Link road was shut after it was declared unsafe for use.
According to reports, the Savitribai Phule bridge, which is located at the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link road, was closed after a structural audit declared the structure under C1-category. People travelling during the peak hours were severely hit as they were stuck in long traffic jams on Friday morning. The C-1 category means the structure is very dangerous and need to be repaired immediately.

It must be noted that the Savitribai Phule bridge also connects east and west Ghatkopar. After it was declared unsafe, authorities began demolition of the leading to LBS road on May 29. In the wake of the repair and maintenance work, the Andheri link road is also shut from Rasika Bar to Eastern Express Highway. Reports inform that the road will remain closed until the repair work is complete.
