Mumbai Traffic Is Worst In The World, Delhi Stands Fourth in List: Survey

Mumbai has the worst traffic flow in the world, while Delhi stands fourth in the list, suggests a report based on the survey conducted in 56 countries.

New Delhi, June 5: Mumbai has the worst traffic flow in the world, while Delhi stands fourth in the list, suggests a report based on the survey conducted in 56 countries. Apart from Mumbai and Delhi, other cities of the world with worse traffic jam are - Bogota, Lima and Moscow. In Mumbai, travel time during peak hours took 65 percent longer. In Delhi, travel time increases by 58 percent during the rush hours. The report is prepared by location technology specialist TomTom, which also supplies maps for Apple and Uber. India to be 2nd Fastest Growing Nation For Passenger Traffic: Airport Council of India.

The report said, “Mumbai takes the top spot this year with drivers in the Indian city expecting to spend an average of 65 per cent extra travel time stuck in traffic. Next in the global rankings are Bogota (63 percent), Lima (58 percent), New Delhi (58 percent) and Moscow (56 percent), making up the top five most congested cities in the world.” Mumbai Traffic: How Do Traffic Jams in One of the Most Liveable Cities of India Affect Children?

However, the traffic in Delhi and Mumbai decreased slightly in 2018. As per the report, In 2018, the average traffic congestion in Mumbai was 65 percent, a slight decrease from 66 percent in 2017, Delhi recorded an average of 58 percent traffic congestion in 2018, a 4 percent decrease compared to the previous year.

In Mumbai, the lowest congestion was 16 percent which was reported on March 2, 2018, and its worst was 111 per cent on August 21. Similarly, Delhi too recorded its lowest congestion of six percent on March 2, 2018, and the national capital’s worst traffic congestion was 83 percent on August 8, 2018.
