Mumbai Teen Who Made Headlines for Almost Falling off Local Train, Booked Under Section 156 of Railway Act

Mumbai, October 4: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Central Railway has booked a girl who previously made headlines after she was saved from falling off the local train. The video of the incident which was shared on social media became instantly viral. The girl in the video has been identified by the Railway police force as a 17-year-old resident of Diva. In the video, she was seen standing at the door of one of the local train. Suddenly, she lost her balance and momentarily fell off the train, but lucky enough to be saved by the fellow passenger. The video of the incident was shared by more than 4,200 people so far.

Police personnel while speaking to mid-day said that the girl was booked under the section 156 of the Indian Railway Act and urged commuters to not stand near the gates. The girl defended herself by saying that it was not her fault and railway should close the doors of local trains similar to the metro.

What is Section 156 in Indian Railways Act?

The section states that, if the person travels in the footboard, step or engine, or any other part of the train which is not intended for use of passenger, shall be punishable with Rs 500 fine and imprisonment for a term of three months or both.

As per the reports as many as 406 people have died after falling of local trains in Mumbai from January to July 31 this year. Besides this, around 871 people have suffered injuries in this following period. Last year, 360 people lost their lives in this same period.
