Mumbai, July 3: In a shocking incident in Mumbai, a 22-year-old youth, Zaib Khawaja Solkar, allegedly strangled his 18-year-old girlfriend, Sara Sayyed, in her Marol Naka flat early Sunday morning. Following the crime, Solkar attempted to purchase rat poison to end his life but ultimately decided against it. Instead, he spent over five hours at his mother's grave in Andheri (East) until his father found him and took him to Sahar police station around 12:30 PM.

TOI reported that Sayyed had allowed Solkar access to her bedroom through the backdoor late Saturday night. Around 4:30 AM on Sunday, an argument between the two escalated, leading Solkar to strangle Sayyed with her dupatta. Sayyed's father and younger brother, who were asleep in the hall, were unaware of Solkar's presence in their home due to the locked bedroom door. Mumbai Shocker: Man Brutally Kills Ex-Girlfriend on Street With Spanner in Vasai, Disturbing Video Surfaces.

The incident came to light when Sayyed's family discovered her motionless and rushed her to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Solkar, a student pursuing an AC mechanic course after completing Class 12, left the scene and purchased rat poison from Andheri's Chimanpada locality but could not bring himself to consume it. Mumbai Woman Drugged and Raped: Case Registered After 21-Year-Old Girl Alleges Sexual Assault by Instagram Friend.

Solkar's father, an autorickshaw driver, suspected his son's whereabouts and found him at the graveyard, a place Solkar often visited when depressed. Upon confessing to the crime, Solkar was taken to the police station by his father, who believed his son should face punishment for his actions.

Sahar police reviewed local CCTV footage, as the victim's building lacked surveillance cameras. Officers noted that Solkar and Sayyed had known each other for three years and had a recent verbal altercation on social media. Solkar has been taken into police custody for five days.
