Mumbai, July 28: The Mumbai police recently booked a man and his family after a 28-year-old woman died by suicide in the Mulund area. The alleged incident occurred on Wednesday, July 24, when the deceased woman ended her life by hanging herself. Police officials said that the deceased woman had sent a WhatsApp voice note, which helped them to book the accused.
The WhatsApp voice note helped the police unearth the alleged harassment that the woman faced from her in-laws. The police have booked the deceased woman's husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law for abetting her suicide, reports Hindustan Times. Victim's Sister Shares WhatsApp Voice Note with Police
The incident came to light after the deceased woman's younger sister shared the voice note with the police. A police official said that the woman had sent a voice message on WhatsApp to her younger sister before ending her life. In her voice note, the deceased woman narrated how she was tortured by her in-laws. During the investigation, officials found that the woman, who hails from Pune, had got married in April 2022 and later moved to Mulund at her in-laws’ place.

They also discovered that the deceased woman was not allowed to speak with her parents. It is alleged that her in-laws belittled and taunted her every day. Besides, the victim was also asked to hand over her salary to her husband. The official said that when the deceased woman's younger sister tried responding to her messages and calling but could not get through. Hours after her sister's death, the woman learned about her passing away due to suicide. The victim's father told cops that he was aware of the harassment faced by his daughter. He also said his daughter was forced to cut off all ties with them. While the police have booked the accused, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, no arrests have been made so far.
