Mumbai, July 19: A watchman who allegedly tried to kill a woman in Mumbai's Malad area after she resisted his rape attempt was recently arrested from Bihar. Police officials said that the accused was arrested from Bihar on Tuesday, July 16, after his attempt to rape the woman failed on Monday, July 16. Police officials said that the accused worked as a watchman and caretaker of a bungalow in Malad's Madh area.

The victim, a 38-year-old and an animal lover, was living in another bungalow in the same neighbourhood, reports Indian Express. Police officials said that the alleged incident occurred on Monday when the accused told the woman that her cats had entered the bungalow-cum-production house. Amid this, the watchman allegedly grabbed the woman and demanded physical favours from her. However, when the woman resisted him, the accused threatened to kill her. After this, he took the woman to a room inside the bungalow and tried to force himself on her. Once again, the woman resisted his rape attempt, but the accused attacked her with a knife.

Police officials said that the victim sustained injuries on her neck and stomach. They also said that after attacking the woman, the accused locked her in the room of the bungalow and fled from the spot. After being alerted by the doctors, a police team reached the hospital and recorded the victim's statement. Two days later, the victim was discharged from the hospital. After his arrest from Bihar, the accused was produced before a court, which remanded him to police custody until July 22.
