Mumbai, August 24: Two brothers from Virar were detained on suspicion of altering pictures of a young girl and posting them on social media. Police in Arnala are investigating whether a messaging app enabled the artificial intelligence (AI) morphing of the girl's nude photos. The matter came to light when the girl learned that the pictures were being shared online on Tuesday. She approached the primary suspect, a 19-year-old, at his residence. Instead, he and his brother, 22, fought with the girl and roughed her up.

After the situation escalated, the Arnala police were notified, and the two brothers were eventually taken into custody after the girl filed a police report. It appears as though the girl's face has been placed on another person's naked photos, senior inspector Kalyanrao Karpe told TOI. Police have not ruled out the possibility that the brothers employed AI bots to substitute nudity for clothes in photographs. The Pocso Act has been used to charge the brothers.
Previously, a 22-year-old man from Raichur was detained for allegedly sexually abusing a Mangaluru-based engineering student and posting her naked photos on social media. The IPC sections 354(D), 376, 384, 506, 170, and section 67(I) of the IT Act have been utilised to charge the accused. The accused, Yamanura, befriended the 19-year-old victim on Instagram under the pretence of a police sub-inspector assigned to the Vamanjoor police station. Later, the two met in Mangaluru's Thannibhavi Beach and Kadri Temple, where he snapped photos of them. She was taken to a lodge in Nelamangala, close to Bengaluru, where he threatened to post the photos on social media, and afterwards to Kinnigoli, close to Mangaluru, where he sexually exploited her.
