Adding more shock to the news, it was later discovered that the boy had initially sought the assistance of a local faith healer for almost a week before eventually seeking medical care at a hospital.
According to a Times of India report, the Kurla (west) teenager visited Kasturba Hospital on August 14 due to fever and jaundice. The report said that he approached the hospital when his situation did not improve after ‘treatment’ from a faith healer. Upon arriving at Kasturba Hospital, several tests were done on him. The dengue NS1 test came out positive, along with the malaria test. To the astonishment of the medical staff, a subsequent test confirmed that the teenager was also infected with leptospirosis, as reported. According to the reports, the health of the 14-year-old began to decline as his creatinine levels rose and he suffered breathing difficulties. Subsequently, he was transferred to Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central, where he ultimately died under intensive care. The combined impact of the three monsoon-related illnesses - malaria, dengue, and leptospirosis - resulted in severe respiratory distress. Despite being put on a ventilator during his time at BYL Nair Hospital, he succumbed to his ailments within three days. According to the media outlet, Dr. Girish Rajadhyaksha, the head of the medicine unit and a professor, said that they tried to manage his raging symptoms and multi-organ failure and initiated treatment to combat the infections.
