Mumbai, August 25: A student of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was found dead in his rented apartment on Sunday a day after attending a party with friends in Vashi. The police suspect the death could be a case of ragging, a banned practice. An accidental death report has been filed in the matter and an investigation is underway.
According to a report published by Mid Day, the deceased, Anurag Jaiswal, who was enrolled in the Human Resource program at TISS, was at a party in Vashi the previous night with friends and had reportedly become inebriated. Jaiswal did not wake up the following morning. His three roommates rushed him to a local hospital in Chembur, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police Suspect Ragging
The police suspect ragging and are investigating the matter further. All his friends are being questioned, police sources told the media outlet. The student's family in Lucknow has been informed and has requested that the postmortem be conducted only after they arrive in the city. Earlier in June this year, a 20-year-old engineering student, who left his home in Lokhandwala in his car, was found dead near a high-profile rooftop pub in south Mumbai. The Yellow Gate police registered an accidental death report (ADR). The deceased was identified as Hamza Gulreej Khan. The deceased's father is currently on a religious tour and not in India, said a source. The source said, "He (Hamza) left home in his car at 8 pm on Sunday and did not return. His father is currently on Hajj."
