Mumbai, August 16: The Mumbai Police on Thursday, August 15, arrested a 29-year-old electrician for allegedly stalking and touching an 18-year-old college student in the city. The incident came to light after the stalker was detained outside the college premises by the college staff and produced before the management. Later, the management turned the accused to the cops.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Muzzamil Alam Shafi (29), an electrician by profession and resident of Nagpada. According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the incident occurred when the complainant, a first-year college student in a South Mumbai college, visited a nearby photocopy shop to get certain things for the college's Independence Day function. At the shop, she saw a man staring at her. The college student noticed the man staring at her and even moving near her, making her uncomfortable. Soon after her photocopy work was completed, the student was walking towards the college when the accused suddenly came from behind and touched her inappropriately before fleeing the spot.
The student narrated her ordeal and gave the accused's description to the college's security guard. When the complainant saw the accused roaming near the college premises again later in the day, she alerted the security guards, who caught him. The accused has been booked under various Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 sections.
