Mumbai, May 22: The Mumbai police recently solved a murder case five days after they found the body of an 89-year-old woman at her house in Malad. The police arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly killing the elderly woman for Rs 15,000. The accused was identified as Baiju Mukhiya (45), a Bihar resident arrested from the Subhash De Chawl area.
Accused Overhears Victim's Conversation
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the accused overheard the victim, Shantibai, talking to her grandson on the phone. Cops said the woman had told her grandson that she had Rs 15,000, which she wanted to give him. Mukhiya, who heard this conversation, entered the elderly woman's hut by climbing through the roof. After entering the victim's house, Mukhita killed the woman by banging her head on the wall. Officials said that the deceased woman used to earn her living by begging at a nearby temple. They further said that the victim had come to stay at the same place 15 days before she was killed. Officials also said that the woman did not know anyone where she stayed
How Did the Cops Solve the Case?
While investigating the case, cops learned that the woman was hit on the head. They also discovered that the woman's ribs were damaged. The alleged incident came to light when locals informed the police after seeing blood coming out from beneath the front door. After this, cops suspected the murderer to be someone who had knowledge about the house and cash. Mukhiya, who was among the suspects, was questioned by the police. During questioning, Mukhiya, who does odd jobs, confessed to his crime. Following this, the police arrested him for murder and placed him under custody.
