Mumbai, May 23: A man from Mumbai was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly abusing and passing obscene comments on a woman and her 12-year-old daughter at a local dosa stall in Kandivali (East). The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the man lost his temper after the vendor served the woman and her daughter before him. The woman in her complaint said that not only was she abused by the man, but her brother-in-law was also assaulted by the man and his friend.
According to an Indian Express report, the man and his friend were booked under stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The woman in her complaint to the police said that she had gone to a local dosa shop near the Centrium Mall on Tuesday evening. She was accompanied by her 12-year-old child. The woman said that she ordered a dosa parcel, as other people stood around the stall eating their food. After placing an order for a parcel, the vendor served her first, which infuriated the accused man. The man allegedly used a derogatory term against the woman and questioned the vendor’s decision to serve her first. When the woman confronted him, he began to abuse her and her daughter using obscene language. The situation escalated when the woman’s brother-in-law arrived at the scene. The accused not only threatened the brother-in-law but also assaulted him, according to the complainant.
As people began to gather at the scene, the accused and his friend managed to flee from the spot. A criminal case has been lodged against the two men under several sections of the IPC and sections 11 and 12 of the Pocso Act. The police are currently investigating the matter.
