Mumbai, February 11: A week after the Mumbai Police arrested Mahim Zari unit owner and his girlfriend for allegedly murdering his wife and three-year-old daughter, the probing officers found out that the accused slit his child’s throat because he believed that she brought him ‘bad luck’. To cover the pieces of evidence, the accused – Iliyas Sayyad (36) and Aafreen Bano (22) – set the flat in Diamond Apartments in Mahim (E) on fire, informed the police.

The shocking murder came to light when residents noticed smoke out of Sayyad’s 10th floor flat on January 31 morning. Soon after this, the residents called Sayyed and informed the Shahu Nagar police. When Sayyad opened the door of his flat, the police found the bodies of his daughter Aaliya and his wife, Tehseen. According to the police, their throats were slit and bodies were partially burnt. During the interrogation, the Sayyed told the police that he, along with Bano, killed Tehseen and Aaliya. Sayyed said the police, as TOI reports, “My younger daughter brought me bad luck. I have been suffering losses since her birth, so I killed her along with Tehseen. I wanted to marry Bano and live with her and my elder daughter Samaana.”

Though, Sayeed tried to mislead the police earlier, but later confessed to the crime. The police informed, “He claimed that his wife had killed Aaliya and so he slit her throat in a fit of rage. But after sustained interrogation, he confessed to killing them both.” Adding more, the officer said, “We have recovered the knife and Sayyed’s blood-stained shirt and sent them for forensic analysis.”
